The General Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns is the ecumenical agency of The United Methodist Church, engaging and talking with other Christian denominations to work toward unity and peace. GCCUIC helps interpret The United Methodist Church’s role as it encounters “other living faith communities…cultures and ideologies.” Its unique leadership role within The United Methodist Church is two-fold: working toward God’s gift of unity of the whole body of Christ, which is integral to making disciples of Jesus Christ, and strengthening interreligious relationships, which enable community building. Within the context of biblical and theological understanding, GCCUIC works for the visible unity of the human community and the renewal of God’s creation. The Commission is accepting applications for the position of Assistant General Secretary. The ideal candidate has a passion for and experience in ecumenical and interreligious commitments of The United Methodist Church. The Assistant General Secretary is a member of the Commission’s Executive Staff, providing academic interpretation on theological and ecclesiological implications of the Commission’s work. We seek candidates who are scholars and dynamic lecturers. Applicant must also be able to communicate well in a variety of settings and work collaboratively with persons with differing views. Requirements: Doctorate degree in theology, church history or related area. Active membership in The United Methodist Church. Knowledge and understanding of the structure and polity of The United Methodist Church. Three to five years experience working in a diverse theological environment; experience teaching graduate level courses. Candidates must be able to travel.
