SUMMARY:Western Jurisdictional Training for Transitional-Interim Pas
 tors
DESCRIPTION:Think only other denominations use interim pastors?   Think
again. Think only other denominations train interim pastors?
Think again. United Methodists have been training and app
ointing interim pastors for nearly ten years! Over 200 Unite
d Methodist pastors from many different conferences have bee
n trained for interim work, and many are appointed as TIMS –
transitional-interim ministry specialists. Are you interest
ed in being trained for transitional-interim ministry? Do yo
u know a colleague who might be? It’s good work, and, unlike
most ministry, interim ministry carries with it a clear foc
us and agreed upon end date. Such boundaries create a unique
context. Interim pastors are deployed to parishes facing si
gnificant transition, such as moving through conflict, letti
ng go of a long-term pastor, merging, or restoring trust aft
er pastoral misconduct. Training as an interim is ideal for
retired pastors – or those soon to retire – and for active p
astors who wish to broaden the kinds of congregations they m
ight one day serve. Interim training is coordinated through
the Intentional Growth Center at Lake Junaluska, North Carol
ina, at different sites around the country. The training is
in three phases: a Phase I intensive, followed by a Phase II
mentoring on site, followed by a Phase III intensive. The W
estern Jurisdiction is sponsoring the first interim training
in the Far West – at Mercy Center in Burlingame, California
, not far from San Francisco International Airport. Phase I
dates are July 20-23, 2010. Phase III dates are January 11-
13, 2011. Cost per participant, which includes tuition for a
ll phases and room and board for both Phase I and Phase III,
is $1,425.00 before June 1. Travel costs are extra. Distric
t Superintendents are ready to assist. Information and appli
 cation follow. Questions: Contact janhill@intentionalgrowthc
