Disaster Response Committee Information

The California Pacific Annual Conference Disaster Response Committee was originally formed in 1994 after the Northridge Earthquake. Since that time this committee has responded to disasters within the confines of our Annual Conference. Our Conference has seen and responded to disasters of all levels of severity dealing with earthquakes, wildfires, floods, tsunamis, mudslides and more. This committee works with Bishop Mary Ann Swenson and Conference Director of Connections/Justice, Rev. Thomas Hill when disasters occur. We also work with United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) in responding to immediate needs and long term recovery of those who have experienced loss due to disaster. UMCOR also helps by providing occasional training for disaster response.

Each District within the Conference is represented on the Committee and works with their District Superintendent when a disaster takes place. Each District Director is also strongly encouraged to participate with other Volunteer Organizations Assisting in Disasters (VOAD) in their District and County to be prepared to work together in times of crisis and emergency.
