Telling Our Stories
Last year at Annual Conference, the Rev. Ed Hanson made a motion which said: "In order to build bridges of awareness and understanding, the planners of the 2010 Annual Conference include a significant amount of time on the agenda for United Methodist gay and lesbian families to share their stories with the Annual Conference." The motion was approved. In accordance with that motion, the Sessions Committee worked to provide that "significant amount of time" in the schedule for conference. A group which has come to be called "Telling Our Stories" was formed in order to fulfill the motion, and several people have prepared two to three minute versions of their stories, one or two of which will be delivered at each plenary. The speakers represent a range of ages. They are married couples and long time partners; clergy and laity; gay, straight, and transgender; family members; men and women.
